Stephen Catlin began his insurance career in 1973 joining BL Evens & Others on Syndicate 264 at Lloyd's. In 1982 he became deputy underwriter, specialising in the excess of loss and energy accounts where he was supported as a market leader. He founded Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited in 1984 and was the active underwriter of Syndicate 1003 and later Syndicate 2003 until May 2003. From September 1996 to January 2002, he was the Lloyd's nominated Director of Equitas Holdings Limited. He served as Chairman of the Lloyd's Market Association, the trade association representing the interests of Lloyd's underwriters and underwriting agents, from May 2000 until January 2003. He was a member of the Council of Lloyd's from 2002 to 2004 and a member of the Lloyd's Franchise Board from January 2003 until December 2006.

Benjamin Meuli was appointed Chief Financial Officer in September 2009. He had previously served as Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Executive Board of Swiss Re from 2004 to 2008. From 1998 to 2004 he served as a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley with primary responsibility for asset and liability management issues linked to large multinational insurance groups, including all areas of investment banking, fixed income, equities and real estate. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley he had a 20-year career with JP Morgan, where he served as a Managing Director, in charge of European Debt Capital Markets and the European Financial Institutions Group. He also served as Chief Executive of JP Morgan Life Assurance Ltd.

Paul Jardine joined Catlin in 2001 with responsibility for the development of new financial products. He was appointed chief executive of the Catlin Syndicate in 2003 and chief operating officer of Catlin Group Limited in 2004. Prior to joining Catlin he was chief actuary and commutations director of Equitas Holdings Limited. He also was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand, where he was involved almost exclusively with issues dealing with Lloyd’s and the London insurance market. He began his career with Prudential Assurance Company Limited as an actuarial student and subsequently an actuary. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Paul Brand began his career in the insurance industry in 1982 at Insurance Company of North America in London. He worked in the marine underwriting department, specialising in energy and related risks. In 1987 Paul joined Catlin to underwrite the energy and liability accounts and became deputy underwriter of Syndicate 1003 in 1990 and deputy underwriter of Syndicate 2003 upon its formation in 1996. He was appointed active underwriter of Syndicate 2003 in May 2003 and chief underwriting officer of the Group the same year.

Richard Banas joined Catlin in April 2006 as president and chief executive officer of Catlin US. Prior to joining Catlin he was executive vice president and chief underwriting officer of XL Professional Lines. He previously served as chief underwriting officer for XL’s global insurance operations. He also served as a managing director of One Beacon Insurance Group and as senior vice president and chief insurance operating officer at CGU-North America. He also held various underwriting and business development responsibilities at St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, where he worked for more than 20 years.

Having graduated from Royal Holloway College in London, Andrew McMellin joined Willis Corroon plc's graduate training scheme in 1987. He then joined Willis' London Market Broking unit and was appointed a divisional director in the Casualty Team. Andrew left in 1994 to join M W Drysdale & Others, Syndicate 820, as the liability class underwriter. He joined Catlin in London in November 1999 as class underwriter for non-marine liability business and was appointed underwriting director in January 2003. He was appointed deputy underwriter of the Catlin Syndicate in 2006, Group underwriting director in 2008 and deputy chief underwriting officer in 2009.
