Non-Marine Binding Authorities

The Non-Marine Binding Authority account has been written by Catlin for more than 10 years. The book is predominately located in North America and consists of low loss limit business that could not be written cost-effectively in any other way. Catlin is a recognised market lead in this area, and much of the book has been written for years by Catlin. Commercial property, personal lines, commercial automobile physical damage and niche products comprise the vast majority of the business lines.

Business Group Leader-Property

Geoffrey began his career in 1979 as a marine insurance broker. In 1983 he joined Sedgwick Group and spent over seven years in the energy division, initially as an account executive and ultimately as a London Market placing broker. He was then appointed energy underwriter at Royal Insurance, latterly known as Royal and SunAlliance.

At the beginning of 1998 Geoffrey joined the energy and industrial underwriting team at Catlin in London. In addition to his role as class underwriter, Geoffrey assumed short term responsibility for the development of Asian business and was seconded to the Catlin Asia Pte Ltd offices in Singapore to assist in setting up the new venture.

Geoffrey was appointed as an Underwriting Operations Director in 2002 and was appointed Property Business Group Leader in 2006.

Senior Underwriter

Gary began his insurance career in 1982 as a claims broker. He joined a Lloyd's syndicate in 1988, progressing to claims manager before joining syndicate 179 in 1992 as an assistant underwriter. Syndicate 179 was merged with Catlin syndicates 1003 and 2003 for the 1996 year of account. In July 1998 Gary assumed responsibility for short tail binding authority business.

Underwriter

Joanne began her Insurance career in November 1999 with a temporary appointment at Millers Insurance Brokers working in the HR team. She moved to Wellington Underwriting in February 2000 working as a risk analyst in the risk management team. In the summer of 2002 she moved into the US Property Binding Authority department as an Underwriting Assistant. Joanne joined Catlin during the 2006 merger as an underwriting assistant before being promoted to an assistant underwriter in December 2007.

Tim began his insurance career as a broker with Byas Mosley and Co. in 1990 before moving to Grimston Insurance Brokers in 1997 to help expand their US and International Binding Authority department. In May 2001 he joined Wellington Underwriting Agencies, Syndicate 2020 as an underwriter on the North American and Canadian Binding Authority department which he took over the running of in September 2004. He joined Catlin Underwriting Agencies as part of the Catlin/Wellington merger in late 2006.

Lucian started his insurance career as an underwriting assistant on Merrett Syndicate 264 in November 1992 having completed an MA in Modern History from Oxford. He transferred to Merrett 179 and from there worked as an assistant until its merger into Catlin Syndicates 1003 & 2003. Since 1997 he has worked within the short tail binding authority account with specific responsibility for the Canadian portfolio. He was appointed Class Underwriter in 2006.

John Tremble began his insurance career with Turegum Insurance Company in 1983. In 1987 he joined syndicate 947 managed by Chartwell Managing Agents Limited, as an assistant underwriter. He was promoted to class underwriter for the non-marine facultative account in 1999 when syndicate 947 merged with syndicate 952, managed by Greenwich Managing Agency Limited. He joined Catlin in May 2003 as an underwriting assistant for non-marine binding authorities and was appointed a class underwriter in December 2003.

Graham started the insurance industry as a claims assistant in 1982, before joining D G Durham Insurance Brokers as a claims broker in 1985. In 1992 he joined Poland non-marine syndicate 109 at Lloyd’s as a claims adjuster for all North American classes, before joining syndicate 179 in a similar capacity in 1994, assuming responsibility for the binding authority claims. For the 1996 year of account, syndicate 179 was merged with Catlin syndicates 1003 and 2003. He was appointed an underwriting assistant at Catlin for the non-marine binding authority account in 2000 and was appointed a class underwriter in 2003.
