Catlin Life Syndicate 3002 was established in 2009 and is focused on developing UK and International life insurance and reinsurance solutions on a stand alone basis or in conjunction with our leading Accident and Health proposition. Our underwriting team have extensive experience in the life insurance industry having worked within direct writers and reinsurance companies over the last 20 years. We look to utilise this experience to enable us to work closely with the market, listen to the needs and deliver the quality of solutions you have come to expect from Catlin.

With a line capacity commensurate with the underlying financial strength of the Catlin Group and additional services provided by our inhouse claims experts, specialist wordings department, dedicated actuarial support and legal team, we provide a depth of resource that will position us to support you as a risk management partner.

Business Group Leader-Accident & Health/Bloodstock

Nigel’s underwriting career started in 1982 with Syndicate 512, a leader in Accident & Health business. From 1989 to 1992 he was the A&H underwriter for both Syndicate 512 and 530. In 1992 Nigel joined Duncanson & Holt Europe as chief underwriter with responsibility for a broad account encompassing both PA and Medical business.

He joined Wellington with his team at the end of 1999 to develop the A&H account for the Group. He became a member of the Underwriting Executive in 2002 and was also appointed a director for Wellington Underwriting Agency Ltd. He serves on the NMA Business Panel for Accident and Health. Within Wellington he also served on Technical Reserving Group, Training Committee and Security Committee.

Underwriter

Simon’s underwriting career started in 1989 with Black Horse Financial Services where he worked as an underwriter for the Life and Health business. From 1997 to 2002, he worked as an underwriter with the AIG Life group risk team and in 1999 assumed responsibility for the Medical Underwriting unit specialising in Group Life, Critical Illness and Income Protection.

In 2002 Simon commenced his reinsurance career joining GE Insurance Solutions. He worked within the Life and Health underwriting team and at the start of 2006 Simon was promoted to the Client Management team. Simon joined Swiss Re following the acquisition of GE Insurance Solutions in 2006. He worked as a Client Manager which involved providing strategic support and insight into market and product developments, alternative distribution channels, communicating research and sharing new ideas. At the end of 2008 Simon was promoted to develop the middle office of Swiss Re’s composite business and prior to joining Catlin held the position of Head of Business Services UK.

Underwriter

Hala’s underwriting career started in 1994 with Bankers Assurance (Nasco Karaoglan Group) in Lebanon where she underwrote Life business.

In 1997 she assumed the management of the Life division and later the PA division where her role expanded to include business development and broker/client relationship management.

In 2001 Hala relocated to London where she completed a MSc in Insurance and Risk Management (Hons) at Cass Business School. She then joined Miller Insurance Services’ Accident & Health Reinsurance division where she transacted international A&H business.

Between 2005 and September 2009, Hala placed Life, Accident, Health and Travel business in her role as a broker within Jardine Lloyd Thompson. In October 2009, Hala joined Catlin’s Life, Accident & Health syndicate as Assistant Life underwriter.

Hala speaks fluent French and Arabic and has a good working knowledge of Spanish.
