Underwriting Appetite

We specialise in the following professions:

Lawyers Professional Liability for firms of a maximum of 100 attorneys
Employed or “in-house” lawyers coverage for corporations with revenues less than US$200m
Insurance agents with commission income up to US$25m
Architects / Engineers with professional fees of up to US$100m
“Miscellaneous” professional service providers with revenues up to US$200m

However we do not insure the following: financial institutions or financial advisors including insurance companies, actuaries, medical or healthcare organisations or laboratories.

Coverage

Accounts are typically written 100% but we also participate on co-insurance placements with both London and US domestic carriers
Our policies provide “claims made” coverage for claims arising from the professional services of the insured
Most of our policies are primary insurance layers and we have the duty to defend our insureds
Defense counsel will typically be appointed by us with the consent of the Insured
Excess layer insurance can also be provided for the same profile of insured as our primary policies
Extended reporting periods are available, typically up to 36 months
Policy forms can be adapted for the requirements of individual insureds via their broker

Claims

We partner with Mendes & Mount and work with our insureds to ensure proper claims management.

Business Group Leader-Casualty

Matthew began his insurance career in 1993 by joining the graduate training scheme at Sedgwick Energy Ltd. After working with a number of teams, Matthew specialised in liability business as a broker. In 1997 Matthew then moved to Cotesworth/HIH syndicate 1688 at Lloyd’s as a deputy liability underwriter.
In 2000 Matthew moved to the newly formed AEGIS energy syndicate as deputy liability underwriter to concentrate on building the Non-Marine liability book. Matthew joined Catlin in February 2003 as class underwriter for the non-marine liability account.

Underwriter

Michael graduated from Kingston University with a BA (Hons) in Economics and began his insurance career in 1992 with Cottrell & Maguire Limited as an underwriting assistant. In 1997 he joined Cox Insurance Holdings as the professional liability underwriter.

Underwriter

Sarah graduated from Nottingham University in 2002 with a BSc in Digital Business. She began her insurance career in 2003 as an Underwriting Assistant for the Property Facultative team at Alea London. In January 2005 she joined AIG UK Ltd, where she became an Underwriter in the UK Professional Liability team.
Sarah joined Catlin in November 2008 as an Assistant Underwriter for North American Professional Liability.
