Equine & Livestock
Catlin underwrites one of the largest and most diverse
bloodstock, livestock and aquaculture accounts in the London
market.
The classes we specialise in include thoroughbred bloodstock,
sport horse equestrian, general livestock, aquaculture, pets and
equine- related property, personal accident, third party liability
and care, custody and control business.
The coverages we offer include all risks of mortality, first
season infertility, loss of use, veterinarians' fees, loss of
income and prospective foal insurance.
We have a vastly committed and knowledgeable team some of whom
have had over 25 years of experience in this class of
business. We pride ourselves in working closely with brokers
and producing agents by introducing new and bespoke wordings
in an effort to develop new income streams.

Business Group Leader-Accident & Health/Bloodstock
Nigel’s underwriting career started in 1982 with Syndicate 512, a leader in Accident & Health business. From 1989 to 1992 he was the A&H underwriter for both Syndicate 512 and 530. In 1992 Nigel joined Duncanson & Holt Europe as chief underwriter with responsibility for a broad account encompassing both PA and Medical business.
He joined Wellington with his team at the end of 1999 to develop the A&H account for the Group. He became a member of the Underwriting Executive in 2002 and was also appointed a director for Wellington Underwriting Agency Ltd. He serves on the NMA Business Panel for Accident and Health. Within Wellington he also served on Technical Reserving Group, Training Committee and Security Committee.

Senior Underwriter
Niall began his career in 1979 as a non-marine claims broker with Lowndes Lambert. In 1980 he joined D E Harman & Others, syndicate 584, as an assistant underwriter and in 1984 he became deputy underwriter for the bloodstock/livestock account.
In 1987 he joined M F Newton & Others, syndicate 1027, as the bloodstock underwriter. When the syndicate became part of the Cox Insurance Plc he also became responsible for the Non-Marine Binding Authority account.
Niall joined Catlin in November 2000 as class underwriter for the bloodstock and livestock account and to assist in the development of the short tail binding authorities.

Following practical training in the bloodstock world Robert began his insurance career in 1984 in the bloodstock department of Ropner Insurance Brokers, later becoming Assistant Director.
In 1989 he joined Murray Lawrence syndicate 156 as deputy underwriter for bloodstock and aquaculture risks globally. In 1992 Robert moved to an Underwriting Agency, Tender Exchange Rate Indemnity as an underwriter. The Agency specialised in Tender to Contract exchange rate insurance for capital goods exporting companies.
Following the purchase of the Agency by NCM in 2000 he joined Willis as Divisional Director in their bloodstock division with particular responsibility for European Accounts, being promoted to Executive Director in 2004.
Robert joined Catlin in 2007 as a class underwriter in aquaculture.

Sarah holds a BSc in Equine Studies and Business Management from Writtle College. She joined Catlin straight from university in 2004 as an underwriting assistant and progressed to Assistant Underwriter on the Equine and Livestock account in 2008.

Georgina received a Bachelor of Science degree in Government and Economics from the London School of Economics. Before joining Catlin, Georgina worked at Cox Insurance Holding Limited on the professional indemnity and bloodstock accounts. She joined Catlin in 2001 as an underwriting assistant working on the equine/livestock account. Since then she has progressed to class underwriter.
