David Ibeson joined Catlin in 2006 as deputy chief executive of the Catlin Syndicate. He spent the previous 12 years at Wellington Underwriting plc, where he was an executive director, chief executive of Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited, active underwriter of Syndicate 2020 and Group underwriting director. David was appointed chief executive of the Catlin Syndicate in 2007 and Catlin UK in 2008. Before joining Wellington, he was a consulting actuary in the non-life sector. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Richard Clapham
Underwriting Director
Richard entered the insurance industry in 1983 as a management trainee with Trade Indemnity plc. Later that year he joined insurance broker D R Fleet & Company Limited, where he worked for 13 years as a broker, company director and the company's compliance officer.
Following the acquisition of D R Fleet by Bain Hogg International in 1996, he became a director in Bain Hogg's reinsurance department. In 1997 he joined R E Brown & Others Syndicate 702 at Lloyd's as outwards reinsurance manager, and in 2000 he became deputy underwriter of the syndicate.
When the syndicate was acquired by Markel Corporation he was appointed managing director of Markel International's Professional Indemnity division. He left Markel to become chief operations director of PRI Group plc in July 2002, responsible for PRI's underwriting and operational systems, broker relationships and reinsurance placements.
Richard joined Catlin Group Limited in November 2003 as director of underwriting at the UK Branch of Catlin Insurance Company Ltd.

Christopher Mauduit

Chris began his insurance career in 1980 at Sedgwick Group, first as a claims broker and then as a broker handing international accounts. He moved to Aegon Group in 1994 as a professional indemnity underwriter and joined Independent Insurance Company in London in 1994 when it acquired Aegon’s professional indemnity business. He joined The Underwriter Insurance Company Limited in 1999 as professional indemnity underwriting manager. He joined Catlin in December 2003 as a class underwriter for UK professional indemnity and other PI business.

Paul Element
Compliance Officer & Head of Risk
Paul Element began his career in the Insurance Industry in 1995 as an agent and qualified financial advisor for the Co-Operative Insurance Society. After gaining experience in compliance and risk management, he joined Lloyd’s as a regulatory and risk officer in 1999 and was the risk and technical executive for the Lloyd’s Market Association in 2003. He joined Catlin in January 2004 as assistant compliance officer for the Catlin Syndicate and was appointed compliance officer and head of risk for Catlin UK in January 2005. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Neil Freshwater
UK Chief Financial Officer
Neil Freshwater joined Catlin in October 2007 as UK chief financial officer from Aviva, where he spent five years in senior Finance roles, including director of group reporting & planning. Prior to Aviva, he spent seven years at Swiss Re in a number of Actuarial, Finance, Change and Operational roles. Neil began his career at Laurentian Life, a small unit-linked life office in Gloucester. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and graduated from Loughborough University in 1992.
