Cargo is a key part of our Marine Portfolio in Asia Pacific and is serviced by our Underwriting teams in Hong Kong and Singapore. We cover a wide variety of interests in being shipped worldwide and being stored in many varied geographic locations.
We have dedicated, experienced cargo claims experts based in our Singapore office who support the underwriting teams throughout the region.
The insurance covers that we offer are flexible, tailored to the individual needs of our clients and include but are not limited to:
- General cargo, both containerised and breakbulk
- Bulk commodities
- Bulk oil
- Project cargo
- Delay in start-up / Consequential loss
- Guaranteed out turn
- Stock through put covers
- Stock excess of loss
- General average and salvage covers
- Warehouseman’s liability
- Bailee’s liability
- Freight Forwarder’s liability
We have the expertise to write large complex Cargo risks and the flexibility to underwrite coverage for smaller companies either for single shipments or on an annual basis.
Coverage is usually for all risks of physical loss or damage as per the Standard Institute Cargo clauses. We do, however, have our own bespoke wordings which cater for the more unusual risks.
Expertise in Cargo
Catlin has written this class of business since it began underwriting in 1985 and it has formed one of the cornerstones of both the Singapore and Hong Kong offices since both were set up. We write business on a direct and reinsurance basis, via brokers and via underwriting agents. We are acknowledged as leaders in hull and its related classes and enjoy excellent relationships with the broking and wider shipping community.
We offer flexibility and availability to brokers, together with fast response times and an excellent claims service.
