Rail tunnel collapse

What happened?

A highly respected insured was seriously exposed when a railway tunnel, in which they were carrying out refurbishments, collapsed. The insured had been misled about the extent of their cover by a third party and as a result was in danger of going into administration. Catlin was providing all-risks cover for the refurbishment.

At twenty minutes notice, we were told that a representative of the insured was in London seeking guidance on options and next steps for pursuing his insurer. We met him, recognised his dilemma, and immediately offered him temporary funds to cover his outgoings.

Broker reaction

The client was delighted, and the broker said:

Just to let you know – we will be paying the funds today. Have informed our client who is most appreciative of everyone’s efforts. Thanks again.

Conclusion

We understand and recognise the anxieties and concerns of fair-minded people in difficult situations.
