Community

Catlin and its people aim to make meaningful contributions to the communities in which its offices are located. Our strategy is to support local projects through community involvement and to make charitable donations.

The majority of our community projects are managed at a regional level to ensure that we connect with local charities and communities.

Major initiatives

St Paul’s Way Trust School. Since 2009, Catlin has been a trustee and partner of St. Paul’s Way, a secondary school in the London borough of Tower Hamlets located near the Group’s London office for which it won a Lord Mayors Dragon Award in 2011. In 2013 the London office extended its school partnership to include Stockley Academy in West London.

Lloyd's Community Programme (‘LCP’). The LCP’s mission is to improve the opportunities for and environment of the people of Tower Hamlets and neighbouring East London boroughs by mobilising the support and involvement of individuals and companies in the Lloyd's market. Catlin has worked with the LCP for many years and is actively involved in a number of projects.

Cedarbridge Academy. Since 2007 Catlin Bermuda has sponsored a programme to encourage students at Cedarbridge Academy, one of Bermuda's two public secondary schools, to achieve the academic standards required to enter the island’s international insurance industry. Recently the group partnered with Harrington Sand Primary School.

Catlin End to End. Catlin Bermuda is the title sponsor of what is now known as the ‘Catlin End to End’, which is Bermuda’s largest charitable fund-raising event. Thousands of people travel across Bermuda – running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing and paddling – to raise funds for charity.

Match funding

We match funds raised by an individual or group through sponsorship activities for a qualified charity up to an annual limit of US$1,000 (£500).

Support criteria

Generally, we focus on initiatives that relate to youth, education and family although all worthy causes are considered.  They should also:

  • be in line with our corporate values
  • build commitment and engagement through involvement in 'giving back' to local communities
  • provide learning and development opportunities
  • support recruitment.

We have a Community Committee, which co-ordinates our charitable contributions and activities centrally, with members from across the Group globally.
