Lloyd's Syndicate
Catlin has been involved with Lloyd’s since Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited was established in 1984. Our participation in the Lloyd's market has allowed the Group to grow significantly and to expand worldwide, ensuring the Catlin name is synonymous with specialist insurance expertise and excellent client service.
The Catlin Syndicate at Lloyd's (Syndicate 2003) has long been regarded as one of the most successful in the Lloyd’s market. Following the acquisition of Wellington Underwriting plc in 2006, the Catlin Syndicate has been the largest at Lloyd's in terms of gross written premium volume.
The Catlin Syndicate has the ability to:
- offer larger policies on larger risks
- write more than 30 lines of business
- lead more of the business it underwrites
- provide exceptionally high levels of client service.
We underwrite many of our lines of business on behalf of Syndicate 2003 through our network of offices across the globe.
What is Lloyd’s?
Lloyd’s started life as a coffee house in 1688 owned by Edward Lloyd. Traders used the venue to meet and do business with each other, and Lloyd's coffee house became recognised as the place for obtaining marine insurance.
Today Lloyd’s is the world's leading specialist insurance market. Lloyd’s is not an insurance company, but a society of members, both corporate and individual, who underwrite in syndicates on whose behalf professional underwriters accept risk. Supporting capital is provided by investment institutions, specialist inventors, international insurance companies and individuals.
Lloyd's brokers bring business to the market. The risks placed with underwriters originate from clients and other brokers and intermediaries all over the world. Together, the syndicates underwriting at Lloyd's form one of the world's largest commercial insurers and a leading reinsurer.
Today, Lloyd’s is home to more than 50 managing agents and more than 80 syndicates. This structure offers clients a concentration of specialist underwriting expertise and talent.
