Actuarial opportunities
Please note, the deadline for actuarial applications has now passed. However, we are still accepting applications for underwriting, risk management, claims and IT.
The work of the actuarial team is central to the success of any insurance business, the key to ensuring that risks are correctly assessed. The Catlin team of actuaries is one of the largest in the London market, and will provide you with high quality and varied experience, as well as core professional skills whilst you work towards becoming a qualified actuary.
The actuarial graduate programme
Joining as an actuarial analyst you’ll:
- price insurance and reinsurance risks, working alongside experienced underwriters covering a wide range of Catlin’s business
- participate in reserving work i.e. calculating how much Catlin needs to set aside in the event of claims
- learn about capital modelling, gaining a solid understanding of the disciplines undertaken by general insurance actuaries
- receive support and generous study leave whilst working towards your actuarial qualifications.
You will also spend some time working with underwriters and claims teams, covering a number of the different lines of business Catlin underwrites, giving you a unique insight into the depth and range of our work.
Qualities we are looking for
A Catlin actuary needs to be able to assess problems and identify and evaluate possible solutions. You’ll need to be able to interpret data, analyse it carefully and use it accurately – so attention to detail is essential.
Our actuaries must have good communication skills with the potential to become confident, articulate and credible presenters. A major (and very important) part of your role will involve working closely with the underwriting, finance and claims teams, so the ability to be able to build effective working relationships and develop ideas backed by reasoned arguments is essential.
Finally, our actuaries are part of a strong team. So not only will you take great pride in your own work – you’ll also be able to appreciate that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and take equal pride in the contribution that you make to the wider team.
