Finance & accountancy

The Catlin finance function enables the business to make informed tactical and strategic decisions and to operate on a day to day basis. Working within a team of finance professionals you will have the opportunity to gain real experience whilst developing a strong understanding of the insurance industry and working towards your ACCA or CIMA qualification.

The finance & accountancy graduate programme

Joining the finance and accountancy team as a finance assistant you’ll:

  • gain the foundations required of any future chief financial officer through a combination of professional training/qualifications and hands on experience
  • be part of a young, dynamic team. Because we are at the cornerstone of each project, strategic initiative and external relationship, we work with a wide range of professionals including actuaries, underwriters and claims managers at all levels – from other graduates to the Board of Directors
  • provide insightful management information and analysis enabling the business to make consistently good strategic and tactical decisions
  • enable business strategic development through the design and implementation of finance and business critical systems and processes
  • participate in the development of the business planning model incorporating scenario and stress testing. In turn, you’ll learn how we assess our capital required to meet regulatory and policy-holder needs
  • receive support and generous study leave whilst working towards your ACCA or CIMA qualification.

These roles will be based within our finance teams in our UK and Group functions based in London, with the possibility of secondment to our international Offices in Cologne, Singapore or Toronto as well as our financial operations centre in Ipswich.

Qualities we are looking for

We are looking for professional team players with a passion for high achievement.

Solving complex problems through logic, initiative and skill is part of a finance professional’s daily role. You will sometimes be working with complicated processes and procedures and will need to be adept at interpreting and manipulating data. Attention to detail is essential.

Our finance professionals are team-players, both within the function and with our stakeholders elsewhere in the business. We recognise that our effectiveness is based not only on our technical ability but on the quality of our relationships with others around the business.

Insightful communication in an articulate and confident manner is therefore crucial. We must be able to explain the results of our work to a wide and varied audience to support tactical and strategic decisions.

Academic requirements

Candidates should have or expect to achieve a 2:1 or above in your chosen degree and have achieved a minimum of 280 UCAS points (or international equivalent).
