Ship collision

What happened?

At 10pm on Friday (of the May bank holiday weekend in Britain), our claims manager received a call: a cargo ship had struck a berth in a Norwegian port and was impounded by the authorities. It would not be released until Catlin put up security to cover potential claims.

The manager immediately set aside family plans and spent all of Saturday and Sunday morning phoning Oslo and Copenhagen, eventually satisfying the authorities of our good intentions. Because of his efforts and our global reputation, the ship was released by midday on Sunday.

Broker reaction

The broker was delighted that we responded over the weekend and that the assured was able to carry on trading.

Conclusion

We are always concerned to make sure our efforts help to minimise disruption to a client’s business; we are ready to respond at any time, 24/7, when circumstances require this.
